 YOUTH STEAM PROGRAMS (STEAM)

STEAM: After School: Life Casting

TechShop’s popular STEAM programming is now available after school. Our students are immersed in a creative environment like nowhere else. Our programs cover science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics, but across every subject we teach students how to approach life as problem solvers.

In Basic Lifecasting, participants create a highly detailed cast of their hand. Students will experience the entire process from mold making to actually casting and cleaning up the finished object. Knowledge gained in this class can empower students to create molds in the future that can be used to cast a multitude of objects!

This class is perfect for youth ranging from 8-12 years old (but of course is open to all our young makers up to age 17!)

Please arrive 10 minutes before class to complete registration.

STEAM002: Youth Studio

Supervised making and design time for youth ages 8–17.

Youth Studios are your chance to experiment using our laser cutters, 3D printers, and modelling software to make your dreams come true! Studio time is available for 8–17 year olds, and parents are welcome to participate at no additional cost. Our skilled Youth Educators will also be on hand to guide you through the engineering design process.

This course does not offer safety and basic use instruction of the lasers, 3D printers, or any tools that require a Safety and Basic Use (SBU) course. Participants who have completed TechShop SBUs or TechShop Summer of Creation courses are eligible to use tools in the TechShop Youth Studio Sessions. For kids who have not yet completed the courses, an instructor will run the machines for them.

Note: Membership is not required to participate in a youth studio. It is intended to be supervised shop time for youth who have completed safety training on equipment and would like time to work on their projects. Feel free to bring materials from home, as long as they are safe to use with the equipment.
